Creating the First Section of the Bangle
Part 1 is broken down into three steps.
- Step 1 – Forming the Tube and 5 rows of Tubular Herringbone
- Step 2 – Traditional Twisted Tubular Herringbone
- Step 3 – Extreme Twist Tubular Herringbone
The traditional start to all forms of Herringbone Stitch is to create a base of beads using Ladder Stitch.

Of Special Note:
I am left handed and sew to the right – therefore the twist of the first section will go to the right.
If you are right handed and sew to the left – you twist will veer off to the left.
Step 1
Begin by forming a Ladder Stitch Base of Crystals that is 2 beads high and 6 rows long.
I suggest threading your needle onto at least 1.5 wingspans of Fireline.
Reinforce the first two sets of beads before adding the next four sets, two at a time, using ladder stitch.
Close the Beads into the tubular shaped base.
Do five rows of regular Tubular Herringbone Stitch.
Step 2
For the next five rows, do traditional twisted tubular herringbone stitch by picking up 2 seed beads at the start of each column.
Pass down the second bead of the column. To create the twist, you will pass up 2 beads into the next column as your step up.
At the end of the round, step up 2 beads into the first column to begin the next row.
Step 3
In this step form a more pronounced twist by picking up 2 beads and passing down the next bead of your column.
This time step up through three beads of the next column to get into position.
At the end of the round, remember to step up three beads before starting the next round.
Repeat 4 more rows for a total of 5 rows.
Now create a mirror image of the first half of the section:
- Stitch 5 more rows of extreme twist – follow instructions for Step 3
- Stitch 5 more rows of traditional twist – follow instructions for Step 2
- Stitch 5 more rows of Tubular Herringbone – follow instructions for Step 1
Do not end the thread.
You can jump ahead by repeating the entire process for the second side of the Bangle if you would like, but remember not to end the thread on either piece of bead work.

- Step 4 – Finishing Section 1 of the Beadwork
- Step 5 – Reversing the Twist and Section 2 of the bead work
- Step 6 – Create the Second Half of the Bangle
