Welcome to Part One of our new Project

A few days ago, I published the Intro to the Ruffled Peyote Cuff Bracelet

This project is designed to go along with my new series Bead Weaving 101, in which we have been exploring many of the wonderful variations of Peyote stitch.

In today’s post, we are going to get started on the peyote bands for the bracelet.

Techniques

We will use Flat Even Count Peyote to create two equal lengths of beadwork.

We are also going to be using the Flat Cellini spiral technique to create the little pyramid ruffles along the edges.

Cellini spiral stitch is a variation of tubular peyote stitch that uses graduated bead sizes to form a unique spiral shape.

The Cellini technique is easily adapted to flat bead work. In this tutorial, I will show you how use the technique to build the first half of the pyramid and then how to reverse the pattern to form the second side of the shape.

Tools & Materials

Below you will see the tools and materials used to make the bracelet bands. The full project list is provided in the Intro.

The colors I used are given in the video but I will list them for you here as well.

You will need several grams of your main color Delica Bead. I used nearly a whole small tube, approximately 5-6 grams depending on the length of your bands.

I also used two other colors of Delicas in the pyramid sections, approximately 2-3 grams of each color.

The pyramids use more 15/0 seed beads than the others, I recommend having at least 2 -3 grams of each color.

  • 1 Size 11 or 12 Beading Needle
  • 2 Wingspans per Band – .006 Fireline Beading Thread – Black Satin or your
  • Scissors or Thread Burner
  • 3 Colors – Size 11/0 Delica Beads
  • 2 Colors – 15/0 Seed Beads
  • 2 Colors – 11/0 Seed Beads
  • 2 Colors – 8/0 Seed Beads
  • Delicas – Matte Patina Iris, Opaque Cranberry and Opaque Cactus Luster
  • 15/0 Toho Seed Beads – Red Pepper Opaque and Jonquil Rainbow Green Lined
  • 11/0 Toho Seed Beads – Gold Lustered African Sunset and Fern Gold Lustered
  • 8/0 Toho Seed Beads – Silver Lined Matte Transparent Fern Green and Silver Lined Pomegranate Opal

While you will only need a few of each color of your 8/0 and 11/0 seed beads for the bands, you will need quite a bit more of each when we connect the bands and the center section of the project.

Four to five grams of each should do.

When you have your materials ready, jump right in to the video below.

In the next post....

we will make the center section of the bracelet using Superduos to create the components and Czech Tiles to connect the components together.

As a bonus, you will learn how to create a Diamond shape too.

The series will wrap up with connecting the three sections and finishing the ends of the bracelet.

Have fun and happy beading!
