Today I want to show you how to make another dimensional flower to really make things stand out and pop. This series has been so much fun for me and I am finding inspiration everywhere.
This series has been very good practice at combining techniques and stretching creative muscles that I haven’t used in a while. I hope you are getting as much out of it as I am.
In this tutorial, I will demonstrate how to make a Bell Flower using both Herringbone and Peyote stitch. The process is a little bit complex in that I utilized increasing and decreasing peyote between the larger petals and the smaller ones to create a great bell shaped flower.
Materials List
- 8/0 Toho Seed Beads – Silver Lined Milky Pomegranate
- 11/0 Toho Seed Beads – Rainbow Crystal Sandstone Lined
- 15/0 Toho Seed Beads – Light Amethyst Gold Luster
- Size 10 Beading Needle
- .006 Crystal Fireline Beading Thread
I added a 10 mm pearl to the center afterwards so I will talk you through the steps at the end of the lesson.

The Base Row
Build a base row using the two bead ladder stitch technique, alternating between the 8/0 and 11/0 seed beads in sets of two for a total of twelve stacks two beads high.
Sew up through the first stack and back down through the last stack to close the strip into a round.
Pull the two ends together snug and then sew back up through the first stack again to step up.
Rows 2 - 4
Stitch three rounds of tubular herringbone using 8/0 and 11/0 beads to match the base row beads.
Remember to step up though two beads at the end of each round.
For each of the remaining rows other than the very last one, add a normal herringbone stitch of two beads to the corresponding columns. 8/0’s about the 8/0’s below and 11/0’s above the 11/0’s below. The difference will be what we do between these stitches to form our delicate flower.
Row 5
In this row, do an increase between each column of herringbone. Add the first 8/0 beads to column one. Pick up a 15/0 and sew up into column two. Add the 11/0 beads of this column then pick up an 11/0 and sew up into the next column.
Repeat the steps until the end of the row and step up as your normally would.
Rows 6 -8
On the 6th row, add two 15/0 beads between each column
On the seventh row add three 15/0 beads between the the columns.
On the 8th row,add a 15/0 – 11/0 – 15/0 between each of the columns.
For the remainder of the project, we will use peyote stitch between each stich of herringbone on the six columns.
Row 9
Add the beads to column one and pick up and 11/0 bead and sew through the 11/0 of the previous round.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew up into the next column. Repeat these steps all the way around the row and step up.
Row 10
Add the beads to column one and pick up and 11/0 bead and sew through the first 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out and up into the next column of 11/0’s.
Add the beads to column two and sew into the first 11/0 sticking out without added a bead.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up an 11/0 and sew up into the next column of 8/0 beads.
Repeat these steps all the way round and remember to step up through two beads at the end.
Row 11
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the the top bead of the next column. Add the two 11/0 for this column.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew into the next column.
Repeat these steps all the way round and remember to step up through two beads at the end.
Row 12
Add the 8/0 beads to column one. Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next bead sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Without picking up, sew up into the top bead of the next column. Add the two 11/0 beads to this column.
Again, without picking up, sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the bead on the next column.
Repeat these steps all the way round and remember to step up through two beads at the end.
Row 13
On this last row, add only one bead to the top of each 8/0 column of herringbone.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the 11/0 at the top of the next column. Add a single 11/0 at the top of this column (not shown).
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the next 11/0 sticking out.
Pick up and 11/0 and sew through the top bead of the next column.
Repeat these steps all the way round and remember to step up through two beads at the end.
Without picking up any beads sew through the beads to each 11/0 column and add a single 11/0 bead to the top each.
Sew back down the 11/0 beads of the last column to the bottom of the flower.
Note* I haven’t added the single 11/0 beads at the top of the shorter columns or the pearl in these photos.
